Hayden’s Autism Journey

We are focusing on my amazing son Hayden and his journey from the flat-footed toddler who was non-verbal to the dino-loving, affectionate amazing little dude that I am beyond proud of.
It wasn’t an easy road and a longer journey than we anticipated, but we got there in the end.

Episode 6

Mum Guilt & How It Affects Me

Every parent feels guilt at some point in  their child’s life. When it comes to kids with special needs, well sometimes we as parents feel more guilt – did we chose the right school? Did we get them diagnosed soon enough? Did I wait too long to talk to someone.

Episode 7

Signs Of Autism

In this week’s episode, I wanted to talk about autism signs, little traits and movements that your child or even you as an adult make as well as behaviours that could be a sign of autism.

First off I want to point out that I am not an expert, just a mum who has been on this journey now for a few years and wants to help otters in whatever way she can. I don’t mean to sound preachy or egotistical, but I want to be honest and open about what I know and how we started this journey as a family.

Episode 8

Autism Unmasking

I wanted to talk this week about a autism trait that I only recently came across and then fell down a rabbit hole researching.

Autism unmaking is a form of hiding ones true self from others so as to appear ‘normal’ to fit in with peers.

Acting like everyone else, not allowing yourself to stim in public or forcing yourself to make eye contact even though it’s comfortable for you.

So since I learnt this new term, I thought I would share what I now know and my thoughts.
